Hi! I’m Ivan Phillips. I am the author of books on rationality, atheism, and humanism.

My academic training was in particle physics. Though I left the field after graduate school, I have been involved in science and critical thinking outreach ever since.

Philosophically, I am an advocate for metaphysical naturalism, and I think the argument for naturalism is underrated. I am also engaged in a project to find a more meaningful humanism based on virtue ethics.

Where did the name come from?

In 2023, I started streaming science and philosophy chat on Twitch. I already had the Twitch handle ivan_neo. I added the neo suffix to my name because the people I was joining on Twitch were fellow refugees from Neo Nightclub in Chicago. My Twitch streaming has been a lot of fun, and when I decided to branch out to other social media platforms, I kept the name.
